The presenter, a thirty-year insurance coverage litigation veteran, will share tips, insights, techniques and key legal decisions that will inform attendees how to deeply understand complex insurance policies. Topics will include: (1) how to mine information from the Declarations; (2) how to property understand Exclusions; (3) the unique role of Conditions; (4) how Endorsements operate; (5) how knowing underwriting methodology aids comprehension of insurance policies; (6) legal effect of lack of conspicuousness; (7) how to diagram coverage issues to enhance issue spotting. The course will walk the reader through the policy, from Declarations to Endorsements, and at each step reveal how to mine crucial information and understand how key policy provisions intersect. The course will draw upon sometimes surprising legal decisions that inform regarding how judges read insurance policies. Participants will learn the optimal method for diagramming insurance policy provisions in order to identify and spot relationships between key legal issues. The author will share his insights regarding how to most effectively discuss insurance policy provisions during argument and in briefs.
